Try holding down the Ctrl + Shift + Command Button, while booting. This works for me - Heaven knows why, and I can't find it in any links, or where-ever, but ...

I have a weird problem that I am unable to resolve.
system specs.

Beige G4 400MHz "NewerTech upgrade" Orig. (G3 266)

Radeon 7000 64mb ddr PCI video card
Apple 10/10
Strategic USB2 pci card
IBM 80gb HD
Apple 12 X cdrw from a Quicksilver
Orig. floppy drive

Ok I have 2 partitions first one is 7.9gb (8190mb) OS 9.1 installed.

The second partition is the remaining space around 70gb for data.

Ok the problem I turn it on and I get the start up chime then OF
"no bootable HFS partition"
about 20 times then "can't open" about 10 times And then I get the
grey screen mouse pointer and flashing floppy with ?

I have no problem booting off a CD 9.1 or 9.2

But and here's where it gets weird with no CD in boot holding down the
C key it goes right
to the grey screen mouse pointer and I get the floppy with ? flashes a
couple times then a happy Mac and it boots off the hard drive???

I have used a few different hard drives, tryed OS's 9.1 and 9.2 still the same.
But If I install OS X "10.2" no problem booting off the hard drive.
I'm using 9.1 because 9.2 keeps locking up at the desktop just when
its loading the HD's not sure about that the 9.2 CD boots just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Louis

I'm not sure it will do any good, but try rebuilding the "desktop file" and the "desktop database."

Then reset the "PRAM"
