It's actually very easy. With the iMac tube face down on a towel, and
with you facing the bottom, remove the two screws from the bottom of
the case, then remove the oval perforated panel and the two screws
underneath that. Then pull the top toward you and the whole case
bottom will come off with a terrible cracking sound as the two bottom
tabs let go. It helps to have the iMac at the edge of your work table
when you do this as you have to pull out and then down to get the
tabs to release. (Make sure you don't pull the iMac off your work
surface when you do this. :>) ) Take off the perforated EFI shield.
The drive carrier is affixed with 4 screws -- two on either side.
Remove those, disconnect the cable from the logic board and the power
cable from the upconverter board, and you've got both drives in your
hands.
If you only want to remove the hard drive, then leave the drive
carrier in place. Simply disconnect the cables from the hard drive,
remove the four screws holding the drive to the carrier, and remove
and replace the hard drive. To make life easier down the road, press
the cuda button so your iMac will know to look for a new hard drive
when you restart. The cuda button is below the PRAM battery (which
you should check or replace while you can get your hands on it) about
3 inches, and in line with the IDE/ATA port and the firewire ports.
Grey button in a small flat silvery housing; can't miss it.
Good luck, and have fun.

I'm ready to replace a hard drive in an iMac G3 DV SE but the case
is nothing like my older iMac.
All I can find is two screws.
They made it easy to replace memory on this iMac, but I need help
with going further.
I'm afraid to force any of the plastic tabs in between the clear
and colored portions of the case and could use some guidance. Any
other tips pertaining to this model would be appreciated.
Thanks!
