As the originator of this thread, and the person with the afflicted machine in question, I can safely say that this was not the case with me (especially since the machine was booting into OS9 to begin with, and both system folders are on one HD). From what I can tell, the information regarding the startup disk contents somehow got scrambled in PRAM. Every time the machine went to look for the system folders, whether with Startup Disk or System Disk, the system would hang for an unknown reason. Once I zapped the PRAM, the info was unscrambled, enabling the system to see the two different system folders while in OS9, and allowing me to switch system disks without XPostFacto. -Adam
