On the Beige, with OS9.x.x, the MacOS ROM is a physical component on the motherboard. On later models it's a (model-specific, usually) file in the System Folder. This file is not installed on the beige, so copying the beige's System Folder to a later machine leaves it short of a MacOS ROM.
