was someone like that, that there are no USB-to-Firewire adapters, and any such device would be exceedingly non-trivial, perhaps impossible. So short of upgrading to a new Mac, if you have a PowerMac G4, and are willing to give up sleep, you can use a PCI USB2 card. I wouldn't get a nano or vPod unless you have USB2 in some form. I'm using a USB2 PCI card in my dual-533 Digital Audio and it works well as long as I don't put the computer to sleep with the iPod (or any other "mass storage device") attached - doing so will cause a hard crash! As long as I don't sleep (the computer, that is :), it works reliably. It works, but I definitely want to upgrade eventually to a Mac with built-in USB2. FYI, I love the new vPod, incidentally, and wouldn't go back to an older model.

Thanks for the reply. It's a dual G5, so no trouble with the USB 2, I just have very unreliable device recognition issues on the USB chains, so firewire is much more reliable. Will just have to deal.

Just so you know, I support Windows at work (XP SP 2, name brand machines) and have USB mass storage problems all the time, so it is not just a Mac issue.
