Herb Goodfriend :
Don't know about your software problem, but if the regular head
cleaning routine doesn't work you might want to check out
<http://www.fixyourownprinter.com>;. They sell a cleaning fluid and
applicator, and the kit comes with complete instructions.

Using the cheaper ink may have played a big part in causing your Epson
problems. Epson is notoriously finicky about the ink used.
Also, the link above will point you to another problem with Epsons where the
ink supply tube pops off and the result is getting blank pages when printing.
Don't know if it applies to your model.

Don't pay any attention to people who say one brand is far superior, especially
when it comes to the Epson-HP debate
<

DO pay attention! It's a "debate" based on facts. There are certain models of
Epson's that were just plain horrible designs. Their print heads on many
'92-'94ish models, due to the design, are prone to clogging more-so than other
brands. This may have been fixed in more recent models. As Bruce stated in one
reply, it all depends on your printer usage. If you print regularly on these
Epsons you probably won't have a clog problem. If your printer sits idle for
periods and/or you use cheap ink (at least this is Epson's defense)then you are
much more likely to encouter problems. These Epson's are also expensive ink
wasters with their head cleaning "purging" process.

Google is your friend. Do the research to find which models are especially
problematic. The link Herb provided above is a good place to start.
