I have put trouble shooting the enclosure on hold for now and installed the

the enclosure is the problem.

Could be. Toast has its own drivers and might work to burn a disk but the
system still won't mount it if it's unsupported. Patchburn 4 (for Tiger) is
free and quick and undoable and might help.

Yeah, Patchburn is worth a try. I just never had this problem with the
DVR-108 (also unsupported in 10.3.9) in the Sawtooth.

The Sawtooth had a DVD-ROM when 10.3.9 was installed but the B & W only had a
CD-ROM when 10.3.9 was installed so maybe the needed drivers were never
installed in the B & W since no DVD drive was present?

I'm now using the DVR-110 to back up the B & W data. Then I plan to wipe the
drive and install a fresh10.3.9. Then I'll see what happens with DVD's
mounting on the native bus and also with the external FireWire enclosure.
