Good luck Yersinia, I hope you have better luck putting Ubantu on a Beige G3 then I did. I tried putting PPC version 5.04 on five different Beige G3s with no luck. Also tried a Wallstreet with no luck.
If you get it working (I believe there is a newer version out) I would appreciate an e-mail or at least a posting on the list to let me know what working version you are using. I have known others to use Ubantu and love it. The "try out disk" called "live CD" is a nice way to test it without installing it. I have tried both the "try out" and the install disks without success. The live CD won't boot and the install disk won't boot from YDL. The only successful installs that I have heard of are on "New World Macs." At this point I have come to the conclusion that it will not work on "Old World" machines even if they meet the criteria of a "G3, G4 or G5." If anyone knows first hand that I am wrong please feel free to correct me with details. F.Y.I. I have also tried OSX on the above Beige G3 Macs with the help of XPostfacto but no luck here either. I have tried with small hard drives and partitioned drives with the first 8 gig for the OS install. Anyway the point is that OSX and Ubantu are both picky on Beige G3 Macs. I had better luck with that the Wallstreet PB which would take OSX but not Ubantu 5.04. If anyone has first hand knowledge of a good Unix version for Beige G3 Macs please post the information on the list. If you would like to discuss Linux efforts on PPC or ask questions feel free to e-mail me off list. It would be nice to have someone to discuss installing Unix on these old machines. I have a similar philosophy to Yersinia. Keep computing simple and inexpensive (why buy new when old will do.) Bob [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
