Whenever I place the Sonnet card into the Mac, there is no video and it does not boot (start-up chime is normal). Remove the card, and video returns, however very slowly and the Mac starts up, normally. If I remove the 256DIMM, the machine starts up normally w/o any hesitation.

You're SOL. The Trio card has problems with most Rev C beige G3's, with exactly the symptoms shown. There is no fix.

If you want a fast ATA card sell the trio (or return it) and get a Acard ATA133 card <http://tinyurl.com/acdag>
