Sad to say, it isn't. The PowerPC has the *potential* to be a better design, but the potential simply has never materialized. Moreover, the manufacturers of the Power series (IBM and Motorola) show little interest in producing that improved chip for desktop use.

Even if it runs faster, the architecture is worser.
Suppose that you can build a Ford T engine (vintage 1924) that turns at 9000 rpm, it will still be a Ford T engine, not a Porsche one.


Better the Ford Model T than the Porche that's never gotten off the drawing board.
