Hey guys and gals,
I just did 2 updates to my agp 400 mhz g4
1. I swapped the cpu for a 500 mhz one and,
2. updated to Tiger
Now every so often i will get this strange freeze on
startup where screen turns grey like normal, see the
apple logo and the revolving whatchamacallit then a
balck rectangle appears in the iddle of the screen and
nothing happens. hit manual restart and it boots fine.
Any clues about this? Firmware is up to date.

You're getting an OS X kernel panic, most likely because Tiger doesn't like one or more of your RAM sticks. Tiger's very, very picky about the RAM it keeps company with, so try removing all but one stick, then keep adding until you see that black screen with funny writing on it, which is the kernel panic. Good luck!
