Active programs are indicated in the dock by black triangles under
their respective icons.
The old finder menu item (tearable off) that showed all the apps in
previous OSs was excellent and Apple made a mistake dropping this
feature. Now we fuss about looking for little black triangles. God
help us all.

I must chime in here and say that cmd-tab is just fine. Whenever I’m
in OS9 now, I "grab" for it. In 9, I use that tear off thingy, but
tend to forget about it and hunt thru windows (or hit the top right
corner of the screen) to switch. All a matter of what one is used
to. Such as keyboards. My new USB keyboard is an Apple. The old ADB
was also Apple. Whats the difference? Much tighter placement of keys
on the new, making my habitual two-fingered hit-or-miss typing harder
to do- Solution? Learn touch.
Program switching on keyboard? What else would you use your left hand
for anyway?
