Well, I had exactly the same question when getting ready
to install OS 10.2.3 on a Beige G3/300. When formatting a
drive with the OS X version of "Drive Setup" the "graph"
depicts the drive as a set of layers, each of which is
a partition with the size shown. The layer at the top of
the chart is the "first" partition.
