Anybody knows the exact difference between the following ROM-revisions:
$77D.45F1 and $77D.45F2 ??
Do you mean functionally? Or do you mean how can you tell them apart
by looking at them?
Taking the latter first, the Rev. C ($77D.45F2) will have two chips
with the following numbers on them: 341S0494 and 341S0495. I do not
know what numbers the Rev. B chips have on them, but if it's not
341S0494 and 341S0495 (in the 2 chip model) then it's not a Rev. C.
The Rev. A ($77D.40F?) chips have 341S0402 and 341S0403.
There was a web page or two at OWC which tried to help with
identification. Despite a good effort identifying various circuit
board markings and such, they missed the easy way to tell them apart.
The markings on the chips identify the ROM revision. While some
circuit board revisions coincidentally correspond with certain
revisions of the chips, the circuit board is really irrelevant to
which version of the ROM one has. The chips carry the content, and
so the chip markings identify the revision.
If you have a rare 4 chip Beige ROM, then the chip markings won't
help you and you just have to plug it into a machine and read the
revision in ASP.
Functionally, the only difference I know of is that the Rev. C is
incompatible with some Skyline ethernet cards. I don't know any
more details about it than that and can't even remember if that was
wireless enet or 10baseT or 10/100 ethernet cards. So in that case
the Rev. B is superior to the Rev. C.
Of course, the Rev. A ($77D.40F? can't remember that last digit) only
supports one device per IDE channel.
