Well, any printed documentation will be in English if bought in America. But everything onscreen can be set to French: Finder itself, Mail, Safari, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, Adressbook, QT Player, disktools, help files, and so on and so on

And yes, you can select any country's keyboard layout and be happy, if you are a touch typist. You can change between them anytime you want from a menu top-right of the screen beside the clock (only visible if you have ticked on more than one keyboard layout in the International control panel)

But are Macs really so much cheaper in the US than in France?

I told her that the documentation that comes with the computer comes in
different languages, was I correct in saying this?
If the Mac docs only come in English, she won't/can't buy.
