G'day.
I've bought iLife 06 on Friday and it offered but doesn't insist on
registration, which is the usual Apple way. I declined.
The only problem I found during installation is that it said iDVD 6
was installed, but in fact it wasn't.
Turned out the disk was VERY dirty straight out of the sealed pack. I
just didn't bother to check first up.
Quicktime 7 is a download from Apples site. http://www.apple.com/
quicktime/download/mac.html
The family pack is purely honesty.

Santa

Also from the Apple iLife '06 forum comes a tip for getting iDVD 5
to burn dual-layer, by downloading a patch from the French site
<http://www.hardmac.com/>. The webpage that the patch is on is
<http://www.hardmac.com/news/2005-05-26/#4090>.
But from the instructions for using it, it all seems a little iffy
to me, and I don't like their disclaimer "We do not guarantee that
the patch is working neither the quality of the burns made with
it." Might be a recipe for trouble. Probably better to just bite
the bullet and buy iLife '06.
Looks like iLife '06 gives you Quicktime 7 along with iDVD 6 and
the other 6 program updates, and iDVD 6 does support dual-layer DVD
burning.
interesting: Apple charges $79 for iLife '06 for a single user, and
$99 for a "Family Pack" that lets you put it on five computers.
I'm curious: how does Apple know how many computers you install a
"single user" program on? Have they gone to "product activation"
before you can use the iLife programs, like Adobe has done with its
CS programs?
Has anybody here bought and installed iLife '06, and then had to
have Apple activate it before they could use it?
