It does more than Timbuktu (at least from my experiences with older
TB2). You can:
Send out one or more files to several computers simultaneously.
Install multiple packages to multiple computers.
Queue up several tasks, to be executed sequentially but I haven't
found that to be of much value.
In theory you can search multiple computers for files but in it's
current version (2.2) it rarely works.for me. It just sits and
spins, even over night without completing.
You can get assorted information about the computer, IP address, MAC
address, video features, RAM size, HD size and so on.
Send a Unix command to all computers. I frequently use this to
delete files and folders as the "normal" ARD way to do this is to
search for them then delete. Since the search function doesn't work
it's pretty hard to delete things this way.

It will crash from time to time but that isn't it's greatest
weakness. It tends to not work. Computers won't respond, even
though they are working. Some computers you just can't seem to wake
up remotely. It's unreliability seems to be in proportion to the
number of computers on the network (not how many you are working on
at the time).
I tried it out, running a clamshell as a client with 10.3.9 from my
G4 running
10.4.4 as administrator and it seemed fine. The clam has the 2.2 client
upgrade.
Then I tried the reverse, with the G4 as client and the Clamshell
as admin. The
G4 was "unavailable." According to the docs a G3 computer should be fine
administrating ARF 2.2. All the sharing stuff is switched on.
the calm is on
wireless airport but the G4 is on ethernet connected to the Base station.
Sharing works fine both ways. Is there something else I should look for?
I've used various machines from a WallStreet up to a iBook G4 to
manage the same spread of machines. No particular machine has been
better as either the managing or client machine.
