Tyler writes,

<The optical drive in my digital audio seems to have a problem with my
WarCraft II CD. When running the game from either the CD or from the
hard disk, I get the "insert CD" message, despite having no trouble
with the CD itself, the game's installer, and even listening to the
audio tracks in itunes. It also gave me the same problem when run after
booting into OS9 (and a couple different incarnations of OS X). After I
popped the disk into my Performa 6200CD on a lark, the game worked just
fine, no trouble at all. I haven't had any problems with any other CDs,
including booting from them. Could this be the drive's fault, or maybe
some unique conflict between drive and disk?>

Several months ago, I had a problem I'll call "similar" in the sense that
the internal CDRW in my G3 would do anything I asked from CDs EXCEPT boot
from my bootable ones. For me, making copies of the two CDs in question
solved the problem. No, I don't know what caused this misbehavior, only
that making the new CDs fixed it. So naturally, I suggest that perhaps if
you make a copy of your WarCraft II CD and play from the copy, you'll be
fine?
