I haven't done this for a while and I got fuzzy on the details of stuff. (Sad, I'm only early 40's).
I have a new iBook with a fresh Tiger install. At boot I get the new welcome screen and then am asked if I want to transfer data from another computer. Yes, I do but actually it's a FR drive. IIRC, I can not transfer info. from a .dmg format system back-up as I have on my FW drive. It can not be a compressed disk image format, is this correct? When attempting to cop application and system folders onto a partition from the opened BU system dmg (in order to have a non-compressed non-image format files of the backed up system) I got a message, "One or more of the items have special permissions and cannot be copied. Do you want to skip them?" If I skip them won't this be an issue in trying to re-create my previous Tiger OS with all applications and components working and intact? I can't do a direct copy from my old iBook because it's dead. Can't directly access the hard drive. I was copying the apps and system folders over to a separate partition on the same BU FW drive accessed through someone elses computer. Is there a way around this permissions issue?
