Hello all. Is FireWire dying?

No.

Numerous instapundits have declared "Firewire is dead!" because Apple's latest iPod Nano is not FW compatible, neglecting to mention that there are lots of FW devices out there: video cameras, scanners, AV interfaces, Drives, RAID's etc. Even Peecees are coming with FW mostly standard now. Heck, XP comes with FW networking built in.

FW800 hasn't seemed to take off like FW did, but that's a different story.

And if so, are there FireWire to USB
adapters?

I doubt it. Why? A USB2 PCI card is cheap, FW PCI cards are even cheaper.
