A burning question

Have I understood things correctly that OSX.3 "as is" can't handle DVD-RW discs? What must I do to change this? I've tried Toast 7, but it does not recognize DVD-RW's either. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by 'handle'? Read, write, erase?

OS X should recognize DVD-RW disks just fine, presuming, of course, that you have a DVD-R/RW drive. If they're recorded on, you'll have to go to Disk Utility to erase them, or use one of the many utilities like BurnX Free.

Could you have DVD+RW instead of DVD-RW disks? A strictly -RW drive won't work with the +RW ones.

Are you sure you have a DVD-RW drive? Or are you trying to read a recorded DVD-RW on a DVD drive? If it IS a DVD-RW, most DVD drives will work, if it's a DVD+RW old DVD drives might not.

Finally, it could simply be that your drive is malfunctioning.
