Maybe not, ISP's usually require you to connect to their server from  
a single mac address and if you try to hook up your computer directly  
to the modem then your mac address will be different than it would be  
if hooked up to your router.  Try hooking up the ethernet cable to  
the router instead and see if it works then.  If not, then the cable  
or the card may be bad.
