If it was mine I would start looking for dirty or loose connections.
especially for the hard drive. I would get out the old toothbrush and
the contact cleaner or alcohol. I would also inspect wires for damage.

It is possible the HD is just worn out and given up or that it has been dropped.

You might find what the green light means online.

The screen remaining totally dark " may " indicate other serious problems.

How is the mobo battery? Not the main battery but the one for the NVRAM?
