It would be a benefit if say your computer only accepted 512MB and you put two 512s' in it rather than one 512 or two 256s'. The reason being is that one 512 will run larger programs but with only 1 slot to transfer data. two 256s' will use both slots but may separate some larger programs when transferring data. Two 512s' may only run 512MB of data, but it will give you the versatility to load both larger and smaller programs with with both slots. This is from my own experiance.
