I have a 2001 Quicksilver (867MHz model) that won't boot up and am
trying to eliminate the problem via process of elimination.

When I press the power button, the machine appears to be getting at
least "some" power, but it never boots up.

I've swapped power supplies, so I know it's not a power supply
problem. The red light on the motherboard lights up when I press the
power switch. I'm suspecting it might be the processor.

My question is this: I have a 2002/800MHz machine also on-hand. Can I
test whether or not it's the processor by putting the 02 Quicksilver's
processor in the '01 machine?

In other words, is the 2002's 800MHz processor (which lacked the L3
cache) compatible with the 867MHz 2001 machine? I don't want to fork
over cash for a new processor when it might not even solve the
problem!

Many thanks to anyone who can let me know.

Andy
