Gee, if there was only some way to find that information on, oh, I  
don't know GOOGLE???

Go to GMail's help section, it has all the info you need to set up an  
IMAP email client.

Imap works just fine via dialup, you probably want to tweak Mail.app's  
default behavior in the Mailbox Behaviors section to dowwnload and  
save a local copy only for messages you read; set that way it's works  
great I used it on dial-up for years with imap accounts.
