Greetings,

For a while now, I have been backing up my father's Macbook via wi-fi
by dragging the files from off his hard drive onto a firewire drive
that is attached to my G4 MDD. I copy everything over to this drive
except for the System Folder.

The MBP is running 10.4.11, and I maybe in a situation soon where I
will need to put 10.5 on the machine so that my father can upgrade to
the newer version of MacSpeech Dictate (grrrrrrrr. Don't get me
started!) I realize that I can do a Upgrade on the OS, but I'm not
putting all my faith into that type of quick and dirty operation. What
I would like to know is if the method in which I've been backing up
his files will be compatible with OS X's Migration Assistant if I
connect the firewire drive directly to the MacBook (and if I have to
do a nuke and pave), Or should I connect the to the laptop beforehand
and clone the drive driectly using something such as CCC or Deja Vu? I
want to use the method least likely to cause heartburn or headaches.

Thanks in advance.

Malzy
