I've got a feeling this is a firmware issue. You'd need a Windows PC to upgrade the firmware. The problem is that this DVD drive is a relabeled BenQ drive, and it has the OEM (first version) of the Philips firmware, so it's likely at least a couple years prior firmware to the latest available firmware, which as far as I can tell is the firmware for the BenQ model DW1650 version BCIC. There were many upgrades for the BenQ version to this unit, and most people report this is a good, solid performer, so if possible, I'd try to cross-flash to the BenQ firmware, which seems to be a common thing to do.
