Check activity monitor to make sure, but in both of my DAs, the
processor is reported accurately in system profiler. 867MHz QS
processor in one (running 10.4) and a dual 1.2 from OWC (10.5) at
home both are reported.

Does the Giga card need any drivers? Does your Mac have the latest
firmware? Did you play around inside your Mac just before the
upgrade? It sounds to coincidental to have 1 processor fail just when
you install an OS.
