It would be ok if the solution required the internet, but it would be better if it didn't - as they're often on the road in their RV without 'net access.

So.... what's the right way to do all this?

There is probably no "right way" to share calendar info between the "dark side" and iCal. Depending on the PC calendar application, you might be able to export the iCal file and import it to the PC app. From the iCal "Help" file:

About calendar standards

iCal uses a format called "iCalendar" to display and exchange calendar information. iCal can exchange calendar information with several applications that support the iCalendar format. iCal can also import information stored using the older "vCalendar" format.

Calendar events that you export or drag to the desktop have a file name that ends in ".ics," and vcalendar files end in ".vcs." Both types of files can be viewed on Macintosh or Windows computers by applications that understand these extensions.

For information about importing calendars into iCal or exporting iCal calendars, click "Tell me more."

Can't hurt too much to fiddle with it a bit.
