Steve: That is the airport card slot. See the little antenna wire there? Most Wifi cards with built-in antennae are too long to close the lid. Hold out for an original airport card. -Stephen

Video and drive controller cards need to be Mac versions (either original or by having their on board ROM upgraded). Other cards depend on whether there is a Mac driver available or not.
