Thanks Al and Harry! I thought maybe I had missed some menu command
that would have just brought in all the mail directly into the
mailboxes, instead of importing it inside of copies of the mailboxes,
but I guess not. And I'm not savvy enough with Automator or
Applescript to be able to automate the task.

I think you're right about doing it manually being the safest way, Al,
and I did it the way you suggested, Harry, selecting big batches of
the old empty mailboxes and deleting them, then moving all the
imported mailboxes out of the Import folder and deleting that too. The
only trouble I ran into was that the imported "Inboxes" were also
inside of folders, and the old Inbox, Drafts, and Sent boxes up at the
top of the window refused to be replaced by the new imported ones.

So to get around that, I had to go inside the imported mailboxes,
choose (highlight) the messages in big batches, and control-click on
them to get Move To > (desired mailboxes), and move all the messages
into the old mailboxes that way. A bit of a hassle, but at least I got
all the mail back!

I wonder why trying to use that sick flash drive only corrupted Mail,
and nothing else? Mail seems pretty fragile.

Anyway, everything turned out all right in the end, and I thank you
much for the help!

Tom
