for such shiny additions?
Your G5 is more than ample speed-wise for blu-ray. Blu-Ray is just
a big DVD, really. Video data on it is usually either MPEG-2 or
MPEG-4 (h.264). No big deal.
Apple does not directly support Blu-Ray. But 3rd party software
support is available, and companies like OWC (macsales) offer the
drives, both internal and external.

Hi Dan,
I am currently looking for a second hand / refurbished mac. Near to
where I live is one the biggest Mac Centre stores in the region (on
the Northolland peninsula). I am looking for an iMac G5 in their
bargain basement during the January clearance sale. Or would it be
better to go for an XServe?
I need a model that can support an external Blu-Ray drive or any
other external peripherals yet to come. Currently I'm doing a
photography and image processing course where I often use an iMac G5.
It's sleek and fast but I don't know if it can handle all the
external gizmos.
