TI's chip set is the gold standard for USB 2.0, but later VIAs work as well.

However, early VIAs may not work.

NEC, as Renesas (sp ?), is the gold standard for USB 3.0 chip sets.

Indicia on chips is applied by laser etching, not by ink or paint.
