I have a strange occurrence that I wonder if any one can shed some light on.

I have been struggling to get my new (1 Month) Linksys E2000 router to play nice with my old Speedstream 5100B modem. In the process of trying different changes, configurations etc. with limited understanding. My ethernet port on my QS 2002 Dual 1GHz simply quit working. I was having to switch the cable back and forth from modem to router to be able to access the different configurations. At first the modem would go online connected direct to the computer but after several hours I realized that it was not working. No internet, no access to configuration in either box and no port connection light on the router.
Different cable, same story.

In frustration I took a break and decided to try from the boys computer.
It connected to the respective boxes individually OK.

About that time I loaded the router install DVD and read enough in the instruction manual to reset the router to factory defaults. Hooking modem and router back together and running the install program got both back working together again. About then I phoned AT&T DSL Tech support and spent another fruitless 45 minutes changing configurations around some more but this time I was careful to shut down the boxes or sleep the computers before un and re plugging the ethernet cable.

After that waste of time I reset to defaults again and reran the setup wizard, copied to a flash drive and reset up all my other computers. Last figuring that there was probably no chance I ran the set up on my QS and Lo and Behold the ethernet port is working again.
Have had a week of trouble free operation so far.............

Has anyone any ideas about what happened to cause this port to quit like this and then come back?
