You can attach other systems's time machine volumes and browse them in the Time 
Machine interface

Note, in 10.7 on my MacBook is didn't even need to press the option key, 
'Browse Other Backup Disks' was a menu option already.

Used this to restore files to my laptop form the time machine backup of my 
currently comatose desktop.
