Thanks everyone!

After some cleaning and further investigation, I discovered that the power
supply fan is binding.  I had to "flip" it a few times with a toothpick in
order to get it moving, albeit rather slowly.

I suspect that this is driving the internal temperature too high, and is
resulting in the other fans running at higher speed.

It looks as if I will need to either replace the fan or power supply soon.

I know that you replaced your fan, Peter, has anyone replaced the full PSU?
 If so, how difficult is it?
