“Double-booting Linux and Windows 8” is also applicable for a Mac OS X and Windows 8 double-booting scenario. According to Tuxera, restarting Windows 8 is safe. It is also safe if you turn of the fast restarting feature altogether: type “powercfg /h off” (without quotes) on the Windows 8 command prompt.
