The evil gremlins snuck in when you weren't looking and let out the magic smoke. <shrug> Electronic circuits fail with time and entropy and there can be a myriad of causes: tin whiskers, cap failure, contact corrosion leading to high resistance, leading to burnouts, etc. Could be something's jostled loose.
