Lately Activity Monitor shows pmTool to be running as high as 18% of CPU. I do use multiple browsers, and a few months ago I used Onyx to clear the Spotlight cache. But that was months ago. What can I do to get pmTool under control?

pmTool is the process that collects data on other processes, for Activity Monitor! If you want it to use less cpu time, then set Activity Monitor to only update every 5 sec.

Speaking of browsers, I've noticed lately that Google Reader seems to crash them while I am loading subscriptions. Wonder if they are doing this on purpose.

Yes. Google has decided to screw millions by intentionally making their product crash.

The only browser seemingly stable with Reader is Stainless, which has improved since I tried it a year ago. Stainless now seems faster than Omniweb, which is waaay faster than Safari or Webkit.

Have you tried clearing caches?

Anyone use The Old Reader with ppc?

I use NetNewsWire on Leopard/ppc.
