My commiserations: Do not assume the demise of the Seagate drive, yet. The NewerTech/OWC miniStack enclosures can be very problematic. If you have another external drive enclosure, or a drive docking station, or a USB drive adapter, or another Mac, into which you can install the Seagate drive without too much work, check it out. Several years ago, I had three consecutive bad miniStack enclosures within weeks from OWC Customer Service, and ended up contacting Larry O'Conner, the OWC owner, for recourse. Earlier this year, when NewerTech/OWC came out with the new miniStack Classic, I ordered one to see whether they had improved design/quality. It lasted about 20 minutes before the power connection/switch gave out.
