My commiserations:

Do not assume the demise of the Seagate drive, yet.  The NewerTech/OWC 
miniStack enclosures can be very problematic.  

If you have another external drive enclosure, or a drive docking station, or a 
USB drive adapter,  or another Mac, into which you can install the Seagate 
drive without too much work, check it out.

Several years ago, I had three consecutive bad miniStack enclosures within 
weeks from OWC Customer Service, and ended up contacting Larry O'Conner, the 
OWC owner, for recourse.  Earlier this year, when NewerTech/OWC came out with 
the new miniStack Classic, I ordered one to see whether they had improved 
design/quality.  It lasted about 20 minutes before the power connection/switch 
gave out.
