Well, I was following the Troubleshooting section of the service manual, 
but misunderstood the diagram. I thought there was no trickle, but was 
mistaking socket position for pin position.

Thanks for that. I had disconnected AC and battery along with the CUDA 
reset, but not the VRM. But after that full process, it still boots up as 
soon as there is AC to the power supply. Even with the original VRM back 
in, and whether the power button is connected or not.  All the hardware is 
back to the same as last time it booted normally, except for battery and 
ps. Next I'll try a different keyboard.
