Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: 2.0.0 beta 6 Status: Closed Resolution: Rejected Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Maik Wachsmuth (netswipe) Assigned to: Mark Doliner (thekingant) Summary: autoaway invis Initial Comment: Hey there, just checked out new gaim beta6 - great thing. But what is really bothering: The autaway Message when beeing invisible, please remove it, that there is no away (perhaps choseable in the auto-reply plugin). The thing is, that everyone at once knows that I'm online, when messaging me. Thanks! Great! =) Regards, netti p.s.: And please think of carry on working with the unicode support in awaymessages (see my last bugreports and wishes) =) I know you guys got a lot to do... but that would be the cherry on the cake ;D Thank you =) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Maik Wachsmuth (netswipe) Date: 2007-02-12 22:10 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1246567 Originator: YES mh.. okay =/ The thing is, that it would not be that bad, if away messages (for example in icq) could be read by default. Unfortunatly this is not supported at the moment. But I do understand that you guys have a lot to do and that you do not have time for each suggestion. Therefore I have to live with this thing and that's okay =) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-02-12 16:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO This is why plugins exist. While yes, it is entirely possible that you know no one who is confused by a bit of text in a specific language stating that a message is not actually from you, but is an auto reply, the fact of the matter is that more people than not know at least one person they talk to regularly who would be confused by it. This might be because they talk to people using a variety of languages, or because they know a great many people who have never seen a client capable of an autoreply, or because they have particularly clueless friends. All 3 categories exist (I know this because I interact with all 3 categories). We cannot support a default to auto reply on protocols that do not have an inherent mechanism to mark a message as such, because it raises the level of requested support noticeably higher than the current implementation does. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Maik Wachsmuth (netswipe) Date: 2007-02-12 16:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1246567 Originator: YES mh.. und du you really think, there is a difference right now? Under this conditions there is general sense in sending an autoreply. In my opinion it makes more sense to declare a message as a autoreply... I never had problems with that - everyone understood them. However it's your programm, even if users advise you improvements. Perhaps I will add it myself... let's see... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mark Doliner (thekingant) Date: 2007-02-12 03:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=20979 Originator: NO Gaim did that a long time ago, and it caused confusion. People would say, "Why did you just send me a message that says "this is an automatic reply?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Maik Wachsmuth (netswipe) Date: 2007-02-11 21:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1246567 Originator: YES mh... the thing is that everyone who receives this autoreplies thinks that it's been sent by the user. Especially normal ICQ users intpret an autoreply as a message by the user and not by a plugin / the messenger. It should be obvious for the receiver that this IS an autorepy (e.g. by putting an "This is an automatic reply: " in front of the awaymessage, because it could be understood the wrong way. You see? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mark Doliner (thekingant) Date: 2007-02-11 20:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=20979 Originator: NO I'm not sure I understand the original bug report correctly... but I think this is a design decision, and it is not something want to change. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Maik Wachsmuth (netswipe) Date: 2007-02-11 20:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1246567 Originator: YES btw. I'm just testing the autoreplyplugin by clausomh (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1293090&group_id=235&atid=390395). That's exactly what I ment... (apard from the fact that it crashes when answering^^) regards, netti ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100235&aid=1646005&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
