Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: 2.0.0 beta 4 Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nathaniel Ingersoll (nhi) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Jabber buddy adding results in multiple contacts Initial Comment: Note: I just started using Jabber since I've gone to 2.0.0b4, so I can't say that the following issue is only present on that software. When I add a buddy in Jabber, the buddy is immediately added to my contact list. When the buddy OKs the buddy-add, I get another buddy added to my contact list. It can also happen in the reverse direction, where the added buddy gets 2 entries instead. The entries remain separate even with a Gaim restart. The entries only get cleaned up if I move the entries into a different group, and then move the duplicate entries into that group as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Gustavo Maciel Dias Vieira (gdvieira) Date: 2007-03-13 21:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=720435 Originator: NO I created bug #1680258 so I can track this problem without it being auto closed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: SourceForge Robot (sf-robot) Date: 2007-02-17 01:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1312539 Originator: NO This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. In a previous message you asked for the log of the signup process with the duplicated buddy. I don't have it, but I noticed that when this bug appeared in my GTalk account, if I accessed it using GMail the buddy was not duplicated there. So I believe it is not a server problem. If you really need it, I can try to recreate the problem agaim and get the signup log. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2007-02-14 12:40 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 Originator: NO The sourceforge trackers are not exactly what I would call 'featurefull' I don't know of any way to allow you to post the file. So I would suggest that you either create your own but (then post here with the bug number) or put the debug log up on some webspace (if you have some) and then post the link here. Either way works. When this bug occurs do you by any chance add the buddy into two different groups? GroupA when you do the initial add and then GroupB when gaim asks if you want to add them? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Gustavo Maciel Dias Vieira (gdvieira) Date: 2007-02-14 10:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=720435 Originator: NO Ok, it seems I can't attach a file or otherwise change a bug that wasn't created by me. Silly. Is it possible to increase my permissions or should I create a new bug? I can send the log by e-mail, if it's simpler. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Gustavo Maciel Dias Vieira (gdvieira) Date: 2007-02-14 10:29 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=720435 Originator: NO Thanks for looking at this Etan. This bug is hard to reproduce, maybe it has something to do with the *other* Jabber client. Here is the info: I'm not running Wildfire. I've seen this bug on the GTalk server and at a Jabberd2 (2.0-0.s11.11.fc6) that I run. I wasn't able to recreate the problem with 2 instances of Gaim, but managed to reproduce it with a Gaim and a Gizmo client. I'm attaching the Debug Window output of my side of the transaction. For me, it appears that when I ask another user to see his presence, he is added to my roster. Later, when he authorizes me, Gaim asks me for my authorization. After granting his authorization Gaim asks me if I want to include him in my roster (even though I was the one invinting in the first place), if I click Add I get a duplicated contact. The stranger part is that it doesn't seem happen all the time. Sometimes Gaim never asks the second question. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2007-02-02 14:58 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 Originator: NO Help->Debug Window ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nathaniel Ingersoll (nhi) Date: 2007-02-02 05:13 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1628991 Originator: YES I'm not familiar with the "debug window" mentioned in the above comment; please elucidate... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2007-02-02 00:47 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 Originator: NO This problem seems to almost exclusively occur with the Wildfire jabber server and almost always involves the buddy being added being in a Shared Roster Group of some kind. Is that the case here? Can you both get the Debug Window output of signing on to the server (specifically the sending of the roster from the server)? If you think you can recreate this situation then the Debug Window output of both sides of the add->accept->add->accept loop would also be very useful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nathaniel Ingersoll (nhi) Date: 2007-02-01 22:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1628991 Originator: YES My Server: Wildfire 3.1.1 on Linux (FC5) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Gustavo Maciel Dias Vieira (gdvieira) Date: 2007-02-01 20:13 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=720435 Originator: NO I'm seeing this problem, and I know someone else who also does. We are both using Gaim 2.0.0 beta5 as packaged in Fedora 6. I've observed this behavior in my GTalk account. I don't know the server they use. How can I see the debug window? Can you please reopen this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: SourceForge Robot (sf-robot) Date: 2006-11-08 01:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1312539 This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. What jabber software is the server running?
