Gaim 1.5 seems to get to sending and receiving cookies, and then just never continues (doesn't hang). Tried connecting using aMSN and that's giving no joy either so I'm assuming it's a protocol change. MSN site shows that there was some sort of upgrade, doesn't say when theough... So it seems to be something with the Windows port possibly.
