I've looked into this further. The problem is not with having space(s) in the directory or filenames. The problem is with using a "--dir" option for the program being called by gksudo: Exec ["gksudo", "desktop-file-install", "--dir" & sInstallDirectory, sPath] to sOutput where, for example, sInstallDirectory="/usr/share/applications" & sPath="/home/john/Temporary" I missed out the "--dir" & sInstallDirectory parameter earlier in the interests of simplification, not realising that this is the cause. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Everyone hates slow websites.
