Becasue SDL v2 fixes many problems of SDL v1. Alas, the new SDL is not compatible with the old one, so 'gb.sdl2' will not be compatible with 'gb.sdl'.
Another interesting point is the performance gain: for example, the BeastScroll example speed (without the music) is 1500 frames/second with gb.sdl, and 2000 frames/second with gb.sdl2 (now every image is kept on the graphic card memory as much as possible).
