Weird enough, my i7 running Kubuntu 14.04 inside a VirtualBox (Running Yosemite OSX as host) runs flawlessly. It is true that CPU raises near 70% inside the -limited to 2 cores- guest, so if it was running natively with 4 cores (8 threads), we couldn't figure out what the reason for slowness would be.
