Hi matt and Ron, I think I understand but am still a little fuzzy. When is something like this necessary? Can you give an example? If I go to the website and follow their directions on creating a character, do I still need a mud client? Or does the client just help me connect easier? I really appreciate all the help.

Most work pretty good with JFW. I personally use Gmud32. It's pretty easy to set up and once you get the hang of it easy to use.
