Hi,
the first option seems to be the best to me, if there is some final 
confirmation button which would save and close the current parameter menu, 
and something like return to defaults which would set the currently 
available say 20 parameters all to their default values in case you've 
started to create something complex and then suddenly completely changed 
your mind. :-)
Just my thoughts.
